Day 1: Arrival in Phnom Penh

Sua s’dei! Welcome to Cambodia!

Upon arrival at Phnom Penh International Airport, guests will be met by our local representative and transferred to their hotel in Phnom Penh city. The rest of the day is free at leisure to relax after the journey or to enjoy the first impressions of Cambodia’s vibrant capital.

Special note:
Today, no other activities are included unless requested.

Day 2: Phnom Penh

Sua s’dei! Welcome to Cambodia!

Cambodia’s capital city is set on a major junction of the Mekong and Tonle Sap rivers and boasts some fine examples of French-inspired architecture. Let’s begin your journey today by confronting Cambodia’s tragic past on a guided tour of the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S21), a former school that served as a Khmer Rouge torture center.

It’s estimated that more than 20,000 people were held and tortured here. You’ll also head out to the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek, where a stupa made up of some 8000 human skulls marks the execution ground for the torture victims of Tuol Sleng.

Afterwards, you may wish to learn about a brighter period in Cambodian history from an optional visit to the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda. Wat Phnom, shrouded in myth, is equally worth a visit, as is the National Museum with its excellent Khmer collection.

A suggested, more family-oriented variation of Your Day in Phnom Penh: Cyclo tours around the city are a great alternative to walking and generally include the Central Market, US Embassy, Wat Phnom, Mekong riverfront, the Independence Monument and Royal Palace.
Include Activities:

  • The Killing Fields of Choeung Ek
  • Toul Sleng Genocide Museum (S21)

Optional Activities:

  • Phnom Penh – Cyclo tour – USD5
  • Phnom Penh – Royal Palace & Silver Pagoda – USD10
  • Phnom Penh – National Museum – USD10

Day 4: Siem Reap and Angkor Wat Sunrise

Begin with a pre-dawn departure for sunrise outside of Angkor Wat. Enter the great temple in darkness (please bring a torch) from the little-visited eastern side, and creep along hoary cloistered corridors past the longest stretch of bas-relief carvings in the world. End your touring at Angkor with breakfast outside the temple.

Continue by moving on to the jungle-enveloped Ta Prohm – one of the most atmospheric of all temples in Angkor.

Once home to 2,740 monks, Ta Prohm today looks much as it did in the early 1850s, when French explorer Henri Mouhot ‘rediscovered’ this crumbling site. Move to drive to Ta Nei, a late 12th Century stone temple located in Angkor.

Visit the southern Gate of Angkor Thom, flanked by a row of 54 stone figures on each side – gods to the left and demons to the right – and the fortified city of Angkor Thom.

At ‘The Bayon’, you will see its beautifully crafted central towers, covered in more than 200 enormous faces, and pass by the famous Terrace of the Leper King and the Terrace of Elephants.

Include Activities:

  • Siem Reap – One Day Angkor Pass Siem Reap
  • Angkor Temple Guided tour

Optional Activities:

  • Phare, the Cambodia Circus Siem Reap – USD18
  • Dinner with Apsara Dance show – USD22

At 8:00 AM, depart from your hotel for an excursion to Tonle Sap Lake, Cambodia’s great lake and one of the region’s most important freshwater ecosystems. Enjoy a private local boat trip to visit the floating villages of Kampong Pluk or Chong Kneas, depending on the season.

After the tour, transfer to Siem Reap airport for your departure flight. Airport transfer is included in the price.

For a comfortable connection, we recommend booking flights departing from 4:00 PM onward.

  • Tonle Sap – Kampong Pluk or Chong Kneas
