On this full-day Sightseeing Phnom Penh trip, you’ll get to see both the sad and beautiful parts of Cambodia’s history. Your Private Phnom Penh city tour starts at 8 AM when we pick you up from your hotel. First, we’ll take you to important places that show Cambodia’s painful past – the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S21) and the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek. Your guide will help you understand what happened here.

After this, we’ll stop for lunch (not included in price). Then, you get to pick what you want to see next! You can visit either the beautiful Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda OR the National Museum with its amazing Khmer art. Both places show the good side of Cambodia’s rich culture.

We finish the day at Wat Phnom, a pretty temple on a small hill that gave the city its name. Your Sightseeing Phnom Penh day ends around 4 PM when we drop you back at your hotel.

ITINERARY – YOUR DAY OF SIGHTSEEING PHNOM PENH

Let me break down your day of exploring Cambodia’s capital city with this Private Phnom Penh city tour:

1. 8:00 AM: Hotel Pickup

Your guide will meet you at your hotel lobby right at 8:00 AM. You’ll ride in an air-conditioned car for comfort. We come to ANY hotel in Phnom Penh! The guide will share some basic facts about the city as you drive.

2. 8:30 AM: Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S21)

This school-turned-prison tells the sad story of Cambodia’s past. Your guide will walk you through the buildings where thousands of people were held. You’ll see old photos and rooms kept just as they were. The museum shows the tough history in a respectful way. This stop usually takes about 1.5-2 hours.

3. 10:30 AM: The Killing Fields of Choeung Ek

About 15 km from the city center sits this peaceful-looking field with a dark past. Here you’ll find the Memorial Stupa filled with skulls of victims. You’ll get an audio guide in your language. The grounds have signs that explain what happened at different spots. Most people spend about 1.5 hours here.

4. 12:30 PM: Lunch Break

Time to eat! Your guide will take you to a good local restaurant based on what food you like. Try some tasty Khmer dishes like amok (coconut curry) or lok lak (beef with rice). Lunch costs are not in the tour price. You’ll have about an hour to rest and eat.

5. 1:30 PM: Royal Palace & Silver Pagoda OR National Museum

YOU CHOOSE which place to visit!

Royal Palace & Silver Pagoda option: See where the King lives! The yellow and white buildings have pretty Khmer roofs. Inside the Silver Pagoda, you’ll find a floor made of silver tiles and a gold Buddha with 9,584 diamonds! Photos are allowed outside but not inside some buildings.

National Museum option: This red building holds the world’s best collection of Khmer art. You’ll see old statues, pottery, and bronze items from temples. The building itself, built in 1920, wraps around a garden with a fish pond. Great for taking photos!

6. 3:00 PM: Wat Phnom

This temple sits on a small hill (27 meters high) in the middle of town. The name “Phnom Penh” comes from this place! Climb the steps to see the main temple with a big Buddha inside. Watch out for the monkeys that live here – they might try to grab your snacks! People come here to pray for good luck.

7. 4:00 PM: Hotel Drop-off

Your guide will take you back to your hotel around 4:00 PM. The exact time might change a bit based on traffic and how long you spend at each place. Ask your guide for tips about good places for dinner or night markets to visit later!

This Sightseeing Phnom Penh day covers both the hard history and beautiful spots of Cambodia’s main city. Your Private Phnom Penh city tour lets you go at your own pace and ask all the questions you want!
